JMS Engineers were appointed as structural and civil consultants for the redevelopment of a former office block into 113 new apartments, including a part new-build extension.
Engineering response
Our structural team designed new foundations, reinforced steel frames, and strengthening works to support additional floors, while also providing calculations to ensure the existing structure could safely accommodate new loads. We developed designs for balconies, a framed atrium, and permanent support solutions to guide safe demolition and reconstruction.
Delivery detail
On the civil side, JMS prepared a drainage strategy, working with the Water Authority to reuse existing connections where possible and incorporating SuDS to meet planning requirements. Service coordination and below-ground drainage were also integrated into the design.
Outcome
This project demonstrates our ability to deliver efficient, safe, and coordinated engineering solutions, maximising the reuse of existing structures while enabling high-quality residential development in Farnborough.
