Engineering response
We used advanced 3D modelling to design and fix cantilevered beams, creating the centre’s unique overhanging “twist” on the upper levels. This innovative approach ensured structural integrity while achieving the architectural vision.
Delivery detail
Designed to withstand severe flooding, the control centre features reinforced concrete and steel framing. Its resilient structure ensures uninterrupted operation during extreme tidal events, safeguarding Ipswich’s vital infrastructure.
Outcome
The control centre’s dramatic combination of steel, concrete, and glass captures attention while housing critical observation and control rooms. Its elevated design provides panoramic views of the barrier and its surroundings, making it a visual and operational focal point.
